Large Format Portraits: ADAM

As my senior year comes to a close, I wanted to embark on an endeavor to take large format portraits of my closest friends from my time at university. I started with the man who encouraged me to continue large format work, Adam.

The first portrait you’ll see is of him at the desk in the darkroom, holding a camera. This is where I saw him most during my first two years of work in the darkroom. It seemed a fitting place to take his portrait.

IN THE DARKROOM

In the slide show below, you’ll first see what I see when I look through the ground glass of the large format camera, then me setting up the shot (photos taken by a fabulous student), and finally the scanned negative.

WITH THE JEEP

For the second portrait I decided I wanted to feature Adam’s iconic Jeep. In my mind, Adam and the Jeep are synonymous. This vehicle also holds a special place in my heart, because I was riding in the passenger seat the night my father died. I’m very pleased to have a photograph of them both.

In the slide show below, you’ll first see my view through the ground glass, me setting up the portrait, and the final shot.
